What is Hydrotherapy?
At its heart, hydrotherapy is about rediscovering what your body can do. In our heated pools, the typical “rules” of gravity don’t apply, making it the perfect environment for anyone facing physical or sensory challenges to move more freely.
Our dedicated team works side-by-side with participants of all abilities to help turn personal goals into reality. Whether the focus is on reducing pain, improving balance, or simply building the confidence to move independently, we provide a gentle, low-impact path toward long-term wellbeing.

The unique properties of water play a significant role in the healing process
- The buoyancy of water reduces the impact of gravity on the body, which is particularly beneficial for patients with joint pain, arthritis, or limited mobility.
- Water provides natural resistance, which helps strengthen muscles, improve range of motion, and enhance overall muscle tone.
- The warm water used in hydrotherapy sessions helps to relax muscles, increase blood circulation, and reduce pain and muscle spasms. It also promotes a sense of relaxation and well-being.
- For individuals with sensory processing challenges, such as children with autism, the water provides a calming and stimulating environment that helps regulate sensory input and improve focus.
- Gentle aerobic exercises performed in water can improve heart and lung function without placing strain on the body, making it ideal for individuals with limited mobility or chronic conditions.

Hydrotherapy FAQs
Is hydrotherapy right for me or my loved one?
Hydrotherapy is wonderful for anyone who finds movement on land a bit of a challenge. We see kids and adults achieving amazing things in the water from little ones with autism or cerebral palsy to adults managing arthritis, chronic pain, or recovery after surgery. If gravity feels like it’s working against you, the water is a place where you can move with freedom and a lot less “ouch.”
How does the water help children with autism or sensory needs?
The water can be a bit like a “reset button” for the nervous system. The warmth and gentle pressure act like a soothing, full-body hug, which is often very calming for children with sensory processing needs. We keep our sessions play-based and fun, so while they’re splashing and playing games, they’re also secretly building balance, coordination, and confidence in a way that doesn’t feel like “work.”
Can I use my NDIS funding for sessions?
In most cases, yes! Hydrotherapy is a popular choice for NDIS participants when it’s included as part of a physiotherapy plan to help reach your goals. We know the NDIS can sometimes feel a bit like a maze, so we’re more than happy to chat with you or your support coordinator to help figure out the best way to get started.
What actually happens during a session?
Every session is as unique as you are. You’ll be in the pool with one of our friendly physios, working on whatever matters most to you. This might mean practicing your walking and balance, doing some gentle strength work, or for the kids, engaging in purposeful play. We stay in the warm, shallow water where you’ll feel safe, comfortable, and completely supported.
I’m not a great swimmer, is that okay?
You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer to benefit from hydrotherapy! In fact, you don’t even need to know how to float. We stay in the shallow end where you can comfortably stand, and your therapist is right there beside you the whole time. Our goal is for you to feel safe and confident, never out of your depth.
