Who Can Benefit?
Intensive therapy can support a wide range of children with developmental, neurological, or physical challenges. It’s particularly helpful for those who need focused input to make meaningful progress toward their goals.

- Cerebral Palsy (CP)
- Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
- Down Syndrome
- Neuromuscular and genetic conditions
- Spinal cord injuries
- Premature birth impacts
- Motor planning or coordination challenges
- Low or high muscle tone (hypotonia/hypertonia)
- Post-operative or injury recovery

How It Works
Each program begins with an initial assessment and planning session. From there, we’ll work with you to develop a tailored therapy block that fits your schedule and your child’s capacity – typically involving 1–2 hours per day, 3–5 days per week for 1–3 weeks.
Sessions can be held at our Robina clinic or at home/school through our mobile service (subject to availability).
Our intensive programs are goal-oriented, with specific objectives developed in collaboration with parents. These sessions often incorporate CME and DMI therapy principles.
Why It Helps
Research supports the value of intensive therapy blocks – particularly for children experiencing motor delays or neurological challenges. Studies grounded in Dynamic Systems Theory suggest:
- Children with evolving motor abilities may benefit from therapy delivered during critical periods of development (Kaminker, Chiarello, O’Neil & Dichter, 2004).
- Intensive bursts, followed by rest periods, have been linked to:
- Improved motor outcomes (Bower & McLellan, 1992; Schreiber, 2004)
- Skill retention and ongoing development between blocks
- Better family-therapist collaboration and goal setting
- Enhanced family-centred care (Trahan & Malouin, 2002)
- Improved long-term cost-effectiveness
This approach aligns with Activity-Focused, Task-Oriented, and Goal-Directed Training frameworks, all of which prioritise meaningful, functional outcomes for children.
